Hydroxyapatite Coating

Description

Hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings are plasma sprayed onto implantable devices to improve adhesion and bone healing. HA is a naturally occurring mineral form of calcium which is synthetically derived into a powder form that can be applied to medical implants to promote osseointegration. Our automated processing is complete with validation for coating Orthopaedic, Dental and Spinal devices.

Coating implants with HA facilitates the interaction between implant and body tissues to form living bone tissue.

Application:

  • Hip Joints : Femur stem, Acetabular Cup
  • Knee Joint :  Femoral and tibial component
  • Ankle joint
  • Wrist joint
  • Shoulder joint
  • Other customized implants

Properties

  • Color: Light gray to white
  • Coating Thickness: 20-200 Um
  • Roughness (Ra Value) : 5 to 10 micron
  • Porosity: 10-20 %
  • Adhesion Strength : > 15Mpa
  • CaP Ratio: 1.61 -1.76

Advantages

  • Rough surface of HA coating increase primary stability of implant
  • Porous HA layer promotes osseointegration of bone.
  • Improvement in Fatigue strength of implant
